Challenge: An Adjutant is a staff officer who assists the commanding officer of a regiment or battalion with the complex management and delivery of the G1 staff function, in particular matters concerning manning, discipline and personnel policy. The challenge was to modernise the training for Adjutants – a significant management appointment for a senior Captain. The current approach was failing Adjutants and exposed the Army to risk and a level of inefficiency in units that wasted time and money

Solution: TQ Pearson and Waves conducted a Training Audit and Training Optimisation Study on the role and training of an Adjutant. The requirement involved the analysis of current role requirements, associated policy and documentation and review of delivery methods and attendance on the 5 day course, which tried to deliver knowledge through 1563 power point slides

Results: The result was the generation of an auditable blended learning solution that engages the learner and optimises the use of time ‘away from a very busy role’. It delivered a reduced residential element, which in turn could be delivered at reduced cost. The outcomes were:

  • A reduction of annual Training Days 30% (480 Training Days)
  • A Return on Investment in this training analysis and design project within Year 1
  • Further cost saving reductions in associated with Travel and Subsistence
  • A move from ‘attendance only’ to ‘license to practice’
  • More effective Adjutants: time, effort and £ savings
